ਅਖਾਣ: ਭੁੱਖੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਬਾਤ ਪਾਈ, ਉਹ ਆਖੇ ਟੁੱਕ॥
Akhan: Bhukhe Agge Baat Pai, Oh Akhe Tukk
ਅਰਥ: ਜਦ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਸ਼ੈ ਲਈ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਬੇਤਾਵਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਉਹਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਗੱਲ ਕਰੀਏ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਘਿੜ ਉਸੇ ਸ਼ੈ ਦਾ ਝੋਣਾ ਝੋ ਬਹੇ, ਤਾਂ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Literal Translation: Arguments fall before the hungry; he says “enough.”
Meaning (English): Hunger silences debates; survival comes first.
English Equivalent: Hunger is the best sauce.
